Our Vascular Team

The Vascular Centre is a 34 bed ward welcoming patients from across Dudley, Wolverhampton and Walsall. Within this area we offer a vascular specialist care unit, which involves a high level of care. We have an expert team of vascular specialists, including consultants, specialist nurses, radiologists and anaesthetists involved in all aspects of care and treatment, from screening to surgery.

Our specialised vascular team comprises of eight vascular consultants from across the Black Country.

Our in-patient vascular services are based at Russells Hall Hospital. Clinics are held Monday to Friday across the Black Country at Walsall, Wolverhampton and Russells Hall Hospital in their main outpatient departments.

Emergency surgery is carried out 24 hours a day, seven days a week. There is a vascular consultant on call seven days a week who will review you daily.

Vascular Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS)

  • Responsible for working with the vascular team, to support implementation and ongoing development of vascular services for the Black Country.
  • Provides specialist nursing advice.
  • Works in collaboration with senior clinicians and other agencies to ensure appropriate management of ongoing care.
  • Monitors the planning, delivery and evaluation of individualised nursing care by initiating regular audits in line with clinical effectiveness.
  • Acts as a role model, teacher, mentor to professionals involved in the care of vascular patients.
  • Ensures high standards of nursing care is provided to all patients receiving care in the speciality.

Vascular Anaesthetists

A team of nine consultant anaesthetists provide vascular anaesthetic services at The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust.
They are fellows of the Royal College of Anaesthetists, and have undertaken additional specialist training in vascular anaesthesia. They provide;
  • General anaesthesia (when you are asleep).
  • Various nerve blocks (when you are numbed for surgery).
  • Sedation (when you are made drowsy) for surgery.
They also supervise pre-assessment clinics.

We also have a 24/7 emergency vascular anaesthesia service.
